Driving through Temecula my wife Heather, a lover of plants and trees, pointed out that most of the older trees in Temecula lean toward the east. I hadn’t noticed before, but she’s right. The frequent steady winds from the ocean have actually altered how the trees have grown.

An arborist knows that trees need proper support when they’re young in order to grow straight. Trees needs to be properly staked against the stress of the wind and rain until they are strong enough to stand on their own. Without proper care the tree will permanently bend under the strain of its environment.
Growing children are like young trees. The growing spine is just as prone to misalignment as an adult – maybe even more so. But kids won’t always complain of pain. They won’t always ask you to take them to the chiropractor. They won’t understand that stomach aches, earaches, asthma, headaches, growing pains and other problems are often result from issues in the spine.

Case: 7-year-old girl was brought to me by her mother about 2 years ago. She was suffering from bouts of vomiting every 2-3 days for over a year. Her stomach was almost always in pain. Doctors, pediatricians and medicine had been unable to help. On her first chiropractic exam I traced the problem from her stomach to her spine and found a misaligned vertebra in her mid-thoracic region. Following the first adjustment she had a small bout of vomiting a few days later. After the second adjustment she had another bout a week later. After the third adjustment the vomiting and stomach pain stopped completely. Her family now comes in for maintenance.

Early stages spinal misalignment, like cavities and heart disease, is usually silent producing very few symptoms. But during this time a lot of damage is occurring that can last a lifetime.

Case: 9-year-old boy was brought by his father. He had frequent asthma attacks. After a few adjustments to correct the misalignments in his upper back (which affect the lungs and bronchioles) he is off medication and has not had an asthma attack since.

How do kids get misalignment in their spine? It can start early as birth trauma. But then think about all the running, jumping, twisting, bending and falling a child does in a day. Many children sit in a classroom for hours each day and continue to sit in front of the computer or television after school. The impact of daily stress and strain lead to misalignment of spinal bones and pressure on the spinal cord and spinal nerves affecting general health in many ways.

Your child is never too young to have their spine checked. I use special techniques for adjusting infants that are gentle and painless. Children often receive their first subluxation from the obstetrician as they are forcefully pulled through the birth canal by the doctor’s hands, forceps or a giant suction cup on their head. I have seen children born with broken collar bones from birth trauma. Every child needs to have their spine checked soon after birth.

Case: 5-year-old girl suffering from severe allergies for over a year was brought to me by her mother. They were considering allergy shots but the mom was an existing patient of mine and decided to try me first. After about 6 adjustments to her upper back (bronchioles) and upper neck (common with allergies) the allergies were nearly entirely gone. With monthly maintenance after that the allergies were gone in 4 months.

The science of chiropractic has grown tremendously over the past 100 years. The safety and effectiveness of chiropractic is proven. Our technical insight and ability has grown in this time. The only way you and your children can benefit is to participate in regular care. And with the affordable family plans we offer finances should never be an issue.

Case: 5-year-old girl was brought to me by her mother with chronic earaches for 5 months. She had been given several rounds of antibiotics, but the earaches kept returning. We corrected alignment in her upper neck, the earaches stopped and never returned.

Is chiropractic just a “back pain treatment.” Absolutely not. Nerve interference and damage can happen without back pain and can lead to illness and poor health. The main purpose of chiropractic is to help maintain a healthy nervous system. Get your spine – and your kids spines – adjusted regularly.
